Electricity


ELECTRICITY 1 (3 per day)  E#C460302 mmc            9301 Honors/9302 College Prep                         15 credits

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Exploratory program--Others with approval of Career & Technical Education Director

First year student's course of study consists of 4 different wiring methods used in residential wiring, bell wiring, non-metallic sheathed cable, metal clad cable, electrical metallic tubing, and pvc conduit. Students will also be involved in blueprint reading and drawing along with related math. All student work will be done in accordance with Mass. Electrical Code. Shop safety and related classroom instruction is also part of this course of study. Classroom instruction will include introduction to the Mass. Electrical code, AC and DC theory, raceways and fittings, residential electrical services, and electrical test equipment.  Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5

 

ELECTRICITY 2 (3 per day)  E#C151301 mmc             9311 Honors/9312 College Prep                         15 credits

Prerequisite: Electricity 1--Others with approval of Career and Technical Director              

Second year students will learn to draw wiring diagrams, install EMT rigid conduit and surface metal raceways, diagnose electrical problems logically, electric motors and generators, lighting and power currents and their controls, home automation, security systems, and flexible conduit systems. Shop safety and related classroom instruction is also part of this course of study. Classroom instruction will include in-depth work with the Mass. Electrical Code, motor theory and application, electric lighting, conduit bending, pull and junction boxes, conductor insulation, cable tray, circuit breakers and fuses, and control systems and fundamental concepts.   Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5

 

ELECTRICITY 3 (4 per day)  E#C151301 mmc             9331 Honors/9332 College Prep                                                   20 credits

Prerequisite: Electricity 2--Others with approval of Career & Technical Education Director            

Third year students will learn to wire a two-bedroom model house as well as a model commercial office and model industrial factory according to the Mass. Electrical Code.  Additional experience will be provided through on-campus and off-campus projects. Shop safety and related classroom instruction are part of this course of study.   Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5

 

ELECTRICITY CO-OP  E#C151301 mmc                      9341 Honors/9342 College Prep                        20 credits

Prerequisite: Grade 12 – Student “See eligibility requirements – Page #35”

This program is designed to provide seniors with an opportunity to combine daily school instruction with on-the-job training.  Students, who are paid for their work, are covered by Workman's Compensation Insurance.  Students earn course credits and gain invaluable work experience.  Cooperative Education also provides the students with an opportunity to become more self confident, plan career goals, and gain a better understanding of their academic and related career and technical course work.
