Metal Fabrication & Joining Technology


METAL FAB & JOINING TECH 1 (3 per day) E#C480599 mmc             9601 Honors/9602 College Prep  15 credits

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Exploratory program--Others with approval of CTE Director.  First year students will be trained in shop & equipment safety, basic gas metal arc welding, basic arc and oxy-acetylene cutting & welding, layout, cutting, fabrication, ornamental iron work and a variety of skill assessment projects. Students will be trained to operate box & pan brake, hydraulic shear, ironworkers, plasma cam cutting system, drill press, tilt & vertical band saws, and a variety of hand power tools. Related classroom instruction will be part of this course of study, Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5

 

METAL FAB & JOINING TECH 2 (3 per day) E#C480599 mmc             9621 Honors/9622 College Prep  15 credits

Prerequisite: Metal Fab & Joining 1--Others with approval of Career & Technical Education Director Second year students will be trained in shop and equipment safety, intermediate gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux cored arc welding (FCAW) and basic pipe welding. Oxyacetylene cutting, welding and brazing, plasma cutting, ornamental iron work, school, lab and skill assessment projects. Students will use the hydraulic shear; the box and pan brake, introduction and limited training and use of the 90 ton press brake, the ironworker and drill press in the fabrication of projects, using sketches or blueprints. Related classroom instruction will consists of math and basic metallurgy will be part of this course of study.  Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5

 

METAL FAB & JOINING TECH 3 (3 per day) E#C480599 mmc             9631 Honors/9632 College Prep  15 credits

Prerequisite: Metal Fab & Joining 2--Others with approval of Career & Technical Education Director.  Third year students will be trained in shop safety, advanced gas tungsten arc welding, advanced shielded metal arc welding, pipe welding, advanced gas metal arc welding, resistance welding, semi-automatic welding, automatic cutting, steel layout and blueprint reading.  Students will also be trained on the 90 ton hydraulic press brake, power roller, and the pipe and tubing bender. Related classroom instruction is part of this course of study.  Cooperative placement for qualified seniors will satisfy course requirements.  Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5

 

METAL FAB & JOINING TECH  CO-OP E#C480599 mmc                     9641 Honors/9642 College Prep  15 credits

Prerequisite: Grade 12 - Student  “See eligibility requirements – Page #35”

This program is designed to provide seniors with an opportunity to combine daily school instruction with on-the-job training.  Students, who are paid for their work, are covered by Workman's Compensation Insurance.  Students earn course credits and gain invaluable work experience.  Cooperative Education also provides the students with an opportunity to become more self confident, plan career goals, and gain a better understanding of their academic and related career and technical course work. In addition, cooperative students become candidates for full time positions with their cooperating employers following graduation.  Cooperative Education is available in each of the career and technical third year programs.
