SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS

The School Resource Officer Program in Chicopee Schools is used as it is in other communities as community-policing approach in a school environment. The School Resource Officers actively participate in school functions: including classroom instruction and after-school student, parent, faculty and neighborhood activities. The School Resource Officers, by virtue of being on full-time duty in the schools, becomes the equivalent of the neighborhood police officers. Through constant interaction they have become familiar with the “citizens” of their communities and, consequently, will be in a better position to not only assist victims, but curb problems before they reach serious proportions.
