Chicopee Public Schools has prioritized high-quality instruction for English Learners (ELs) and provides instructional programs and services to help students learn academic English as they learn content in all subject areas. Chicopee Public Schools enrolls over 500 English Learner students, representing 7.6% of the District’s total student population with 35.9% of ELs being in year 1 or 2 in MA schools (Grade 2-12). An additional 3.1% of students are former English Learners who have attained English proficiency while enrolled in CPS. Our goal is that all MLs (students represent 23 languages and 36 countries of origin) will graduate as lifelong learners with 21st-century skills to succeed in college and careers and that all multilingual learners feel a sense of belonging and joy for learning in a multicultural learning environment; have the materials they need to be academically proficient; and to graduate with the Seal of Biliteracy.
